Based on his personal experience from applying for over 75 scholarships as a high school student, Sam spent much of his college career at the University of Washington supporting students all around the country in their own scholarship efforts. After graduating from the University of Washington with a BA in International Studies, Sam spent the 2010-2011 academic year in Berlin, Germany, as a U.S. Student Fulbright Scholar, researching the relationship between access to higher education and social mobility. Sam continues to work on issues of college and affordability by providing students with feedback on scholarship essays through Scholarship Junkies as well as serving on the Advisory Group of the Washington Scholarship Coalition, the Board of Advisors for BetterGrads, and the Board of Directors for Graduate Washington PAC.
After applying for and receiving his first nine scholarships as a high school senior, Michael was hooked. He continued applying for scholarships and sought creative ways to fund his college education, including becoming a Resident Advisor. Having worked closely with Founder Sam Lim as he applied for scholarships, Michael jumped at the opportunity to work with other high school students on their own scholarship applications as a current undergraduate student. Michael has spoken to students from all around Washington about the scholarship application process and continues to develop new ways to improve the Scholarship Junkies website and network.
